A film magazine. It is the oldest of Japan's surviving film magazines, having been founded in July 1919 by Tokyo Higher Technical School student Tanaka Saburo and others. It started out as a hobby magazine, but eventually became an influential critical magazine, and the annual Top Ten list, established in 1924, remains one of the most authoritative. Over its long history, the magazine has had different publishers and was discontinued during and after the war, but it remains a valuable resource, primarily consisting of introductory articles and screenplays. 映画雑誌。現存する日本の映画雑誌の中では最古で，1919年7月，東京高等工業学校の学生田中三郎ほかにより創刊。当初は同好誌だったが，やがて有力な評論誌となり，とくに24年に設けた年間ベストテンの制度は，最も権威あるものとして存続している。長い歴史の間に発行者が変わり，戦中･戦後に一時中絶もあったが，紹介記事やシナリオを主とした資料価値は大きい。現在はキネマ旬報社から刊行されている。【紀田順一郎】
