He was an algebraist active in Cairo from around 830 to 930, known as the "Egyptian Calculator." His surviving algebraic books continue the work of Khwarizmi, but also include more advanced problems and touch upon the application of algebra to geometry. These were used extensively by later algebraists, and include research on linear and quadratic indeterminate equations. Some of his works have been translated into Hebrew and Latin, and influenced the 13th century Fibonacci (Leonardo of Pisa).
