Hopping

Japanese: ホッピング
Hopping
A toy consisting of a stick with a handle at the top and a strong spring at the bottom, with a step on top of it, and the game itself. Hopping means hopping on one foot. It was introduced to Japan in 1955 as the American toy hopping, and was briefly popular from the end of 1956 to the spring of 1957. People hold onto the handle with both hands, place both feet on the step to maintain their balance, and play by hopping around or competing for distance. A similar device was already known in Europe as early as 1921 under the name pogo (stick), and it is said that there were also clubs.
