1512‐65 A French classical scholar. His real name is unknown, so even in France he uses the French form of his Latin name, Adrien Turnèbe. After studying in Paris, he became a member of the Royal Faculty in 1547, succeeding J. Toussaint Toussaint, and in 1551 also became director of the Royal Press. He mainly studied ancient Greek poetry, and published an edition of Aeschylus' tragedies in 1552 that competed with the work of the Italians F. Robortello and Vettori (Victorius).
