A village in Ena County, eastern Gifu Prefecture, bordering Ena City to the north. Population 3,890 (1995). Surrounded on three sides by mountains around 1,000m above sea level, including Mt. Kasagi, the Wada River flows south through the centre and empties into the Kiso River. The majority of the forest is village-owned, and planned reforestation has been carried out since the Meiji period. Quarrying and processing of hanakou rock, dairy cattle raising, and tobacco cultivation are carried out here. There is a native habitat of the Japanese laurel tree (Ten). The village is also home to the Kinefuri dance, which is said to have been started by defeated warriors on the Southern Court side during the Northern and Southern Courts period.
