Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army (English: Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army)

Japanese: 東北抗日聯軍 - とうほくこうにちれんぐん（英語表記）Dōng běi kàng rì lián jūn

An anti-Japanese guerrilla army organized in Northeast China (Manchuria) in 1936 under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. After the Manchurian Incident, many guerrillas spontaneously emerged in Northeast China, but in 1936 the Chinese Communist Party organized them into a combined army based on the principle of a united front. The 1st Army was commanded by the famous Yang Jingyu (1905-1940). By the following year, the army numbered 40,000-50,000. Although its strength was reduced under the Japanese government's pressure to turn people into villages, it fought through the anti-Japanese war and was renamed the Northeast Democratic United Army after the war.
