Japanese: 一筆斎文調 - いっぴつさいぶんちょう

Date of birth and death unknown. Ukiyo-e artist of the Edo period. Family lineage, nickname, etc. unknown. Studied under Ishikawa Yukimoto. He was active with Suzuki Harunobu in the early days of Nishikie, and brought a new style to actor portraits in particular by adding a realistic touch. It is no exaggeration to say that the popularity of actor portraits began with the prolific, narrow-format actor portraits produced from the Meiwa period (1764-1772) to the beginning of the An'ei period (1772-1781). In addition to Nishikie, he also worked on book illustrations and hand-painted paintings. His collaborative work with Katsukawa Shunsho, a picture book of portraits of popular actors, "Ehon Butai Ogi" (1770), is known as a monumental example that heralded the innovation of actor portraits. His students included Kishi Bunsho, Kishi Fumiyasu, and Tamagawa Funacho.

生没年不詳。江戸時代の浮世絵師。家系、俗称など不明。石川幸元に学ぶ。錦絵(にしきえ)の草創期に鈴木春信(はるのぶ)とともに活躍、ことに役者絵に写実味を加えて新風を開いた。役者似顔絵の流行は、明和(めいわ)年間（1764～1772）から安永(あんえい)年間（1772～1781）の初めにかけて多作された文調の細判役者絵に始まるといって過言ではない。錦絵のほか、本の挿絵や肉筆画にも筆を染めている。勝川春章との合作になる人気役者の肖像絵本『絵本舞台扇』（1770刊）は、役者絵の革新を告げる記念碑的作例として知られる。門人に岸文笑、岸文康、玉川舟調がいる。
