The correct lineage of sages who convey the Confucian way. It began when Han Yu of the Tang Dynasty, in his treatise "The Original Way," rejected Buddhism and Taoism, and argued that the Confucian way was the true way, teaching that the way was passed down from Yao to Shun to Yu to Tang to Wen to Wu to the Duke of Zhou to Confucius to Mencius, and that the lineage was discontinued after Mencius. In the Song Dynasty, the idea of ​​Taoism, which inherited and promoted the ways of Confucius and Mencius, became an issue, and the confirmation of the transmission of the way from Confucius to Zengzi to Zisi to Mencius led directly to the commendation of the Four Books. In Neo-Confucianism, Zhou Dunyi and the two Cheng teachers (Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi) were thought to have inherited the orthodox school of thought that had never been passed down since Mencius, and that Zhu Xi (Zhu Xi) would inherit it.

儒教の道を伝える聖賢の正系のこと。唐の韓愈(かんゆ)が「原道」という論文で、仏・老（道教）を排斥し儒教の道こそ真の道であるとして、堯(ぎょう)―舜(しゅん)―禹(う)―湯(とう)―文―武―周公―孔子(こうし)―孟子(もうし)という道の伝授と孟子以後の断絶を説いたのに始まる。宋(そう)代に入って孔孟の道を継承し、それを宣揚しようという道学の意識をもって問題にされ、孔子―曽子(そうし)―子思―孟子という道の伝授の確定はそのまま四書の表彰につながった。また朱子学においては、周敦頤(とんい)、二程子（程顥(ていこう)・程頤(ていい)）が孟子以来千載不伝の学の正統を得、さらに朱熹(しゅき)（朱子）がそれを継承すると考えられた。
