A delicate and beautiful medium-sized fern that grows in the moist shade of mountain areas; a member of the Melastomataceae family. The rhizome is creeping and the leaves grow close together. The rhizome and petiole have membranous, light brown scales, and the leaves have soft white or light brown hairs. The leaves are 40-80 cm long, with purple-brown petioles and mid-axis, somewhat glossy, relatively thin, and prone to breaking. The leaf blade is ovate-triangular, 3-pinnately divided, bright green, and made of soft, thin grass. The lobes have blunt serrated edges.
