...refers to the slave farmers who lived within the fazendas of Brazil, especially in the large sugar plantations of the northeast. Historically, they appeared in the 17th and 18th centuries during the establishment and development of the sugar plantations (engenhos) based on slave labor in the northeast of Brazil. In a farm society with the farm owner at the top and the slaves at the bottom, the lavradores and moradors formed the main middle class in the agricultural production sector.
