Duff (English spelling) [Arabic]
A sieve-shaped, single-sided drum (illustration) used in Western Asia, North Africa, and India, made of a circular wooden frame covered with a single piece of goat leather. It is also called a daff. The drums used in Arab and Turkish classical music are about 25 to 30 cm in diameter, with three to five pairs of small cymbals attached to the sides of the wooden frame. Western tambourines originally originated in Western Asia and can be considered a type of daff. In fact, the name of the Portuguese square tambourine, called adufe, comes from the Arabic daff.
