Freedom of political party support

Labor unions as an organization do not engage in acts or activities that support a particular political party, and individual union members are free to engage in activities to support political parties without being controlled by the labor union to which they belong. Currently in Japan, many unions affiliated with Sohyo have clearly stated their policy of supporting the Socialist Party, and many unions affiliated with Domei have clearly stated their policy of supporting the Democratic Socialist Party, while the Communist Party and some unions affiliated with Sohyo and Domei claim freedom of party support. Freedom of party support is particularly problematic because in unions that adhere to a policy of supporting a particular political party, individual members who engage in acts or activities that go against this policy may be subject to organizational control measures.

労働組合が組織として特定政党を支持する行為や活動を行わず，構成員たる組合員個々人が，所属労働組合による統制を受けることなく，自由に政党支持活動を行うことが可能なこと。日本では現在，総評系の多くの組合が社会党支持の方針を明確化し，同盟系の多くの組合が民社党支持の方針を明確化しており，他方，共産党と総評･同盟系の組合の一部は，政党支持の自由を主張している。政党支持の自由がとくに問題となるのは，特定政党支持方針を堅持している組合において，これに反する行為や活動を組合員個々人が行った場合，それを組織統制処分の対象とすることがあるからである。
