False turtle - False turtle

Japanese: トウツルモドキ - とうつるもどき
False turtle - False turtle
A perennial vine (illustration) of the family Botryllaceae. The stems are entirely hairless, slightly woody, and grow long, covering trees and other structures, with reed-like leaves. The tips of the leaves form tendrils that cling to others, the leaf blades are lanceolate and 15-25 cm long, and the petioles are sheath-shaped, enveloping the stem. Panicles grow at the ends of the branches, and produce small, six-petaled white flowers. In the tropics, they flower all year round. The fruits are spherical drupes about 6 mm in diameter and ripen red. They are found in areas from India and Southeast Asia to Samoa in the South Pacific, and are often found near the coasts.
