Dong Xi-xiang (English: Dong Xi-xiang)

Japanese: 董西廂 - とうせいそう（英語表記）Dong Xi-xiang

A narrative work of the Jin dynasty in China. Written by Dong Xieyuan. In China, a narrative style called Zhugeongcao, which became the basis of the Yuan qu, was created at the end of the Northern Song dynasty, but this is the only work that has survived in its entirety. It is based on the Tang Yuan Jin's "Yingying Zhuan" and depicts the love story between Zhang Qing and Cui Yingying. It later developed into Wang Shifu's Yuan qu "Xixiangji", and is correctly called "Xixiangji Zhugeongcao", but to distinguish it from the Yuan qu "Xixiangji", it is usually called "Dong Xixiang". Little is known about the author, Dong Xieyuan, other than that he lived during the reign of Jin Zhangzong (reigned 1189-1208).

中国，金の語り物文学。董解元の作。中国では北宋末に元曲の母胎となった諸宮調という語り物が創始されたが，本編はその完全な形で残された唯一ともいうべき作品。唐の元じんの『鶯鶯 (おうおう) 伝』に基づいて，張きょうと崔鶯鶯との恋愛を描いたもの。のち，王実甫の元曲『西廂記』に発展したもので，正しくは『西廂記諸宮調』というが，元曲の『西廂記』と区別するため，通常『董西廂』と呼ばれる。作者の董解元については，金の章宗 (在位 1189～1208) のときの人という以外には，ほとんどわかっていない。
