A general term for birds of the Trichoglossus genus in the Psittacidae family of parrots. A medium-sized parrot with a total length of 19 to 30 cm. Their feathers are very vividly colored, ranging from green to red, blue, and purple. Trichoglossi are a type of parakeet that are characterized by their thin tongues with brush-like tips, hence their nickname, the brush-shaped parakeet. These tongues are suited to crushing flowers with their beaks and licking up the nectar that seeps out. Many species live in flocks in the trees of forests, moving in large groups in search of food, and their staple diet is nectar, juice, and soft, juicy fruits.

オウム目オウム科セイガイインコ属Trichoglossusの鳥の総称。全長19～30cmの中型のインコ。羽色は緑色，赤色，青色，紫色などよりなり，非常に鮮やかな色彩をしている。セイガイインコ類はヒインコ類の仲間で，細い舌の先端がブラシ状に分かれているのが特徴で，別名のハケシタインコはこれによる。この舌は，くちばしで花をかみつぶし，しみ出てきた花みつをなめとるのに適している。多くの種は森林の樹上に群れで生活し，食物を求めて大群で移動し，花みつ，花汁，果汁の多い柔らかな果実を主食としている。
