Nuthatch - Nuthatch

Japanese: ゴジュウカラ(五十雀) - ゴジュウカラ

A bird of the passerine family, Sitta (illustration). Or a general term for the Sithatch genus of the Sithatch family. The Sithatch ( Sitta europaea ) is distributed in mid-latitude regions from Asia to Europe, and in Japan, it inhabits mountainous areas from Hokkaido to Kyushu. It lives in lush forests, climbing up and down tree trunks to catch insects and spiders on the surface and in the cracks of the bark. It is adept at crawling along tree trunks with its head down. Its song is clear and sounds like "pipipipipi" or "fififififi."

スズメ目ゴジュウカラ科の鳥（イラスト）。またはゴジュウカラ科ゴジュウカラ属の総称。ゴジュウカラSitta europaea(英名nuthatch)は，アジアからヨーロッパにかけての中緯度地方に分布しており，日本では北海道から九州にかけての山地に生息する。よく茂った森林にすみ，幹を登り降りしながら樹皮の表面や裂け目などにいる昆虫やクモをとって食べる。頭を下にして幹を伝い渡るのがうまい。ピピピピピとかフィフィフィフィとよくとおる声で鳴く。
