Dynamical system - Rikigakukei (English spelling) dynamical sysytem

Japanese: 力学系 - りきがくけい（英語表記）dynamical sysytem

A method of describing the state of an arbitrary point in space as it changes over time. The concept arose from research into celestial mechanics, and was proposed by (J.) H. Poincaré in his qualitative theory of differential equations. He further gave rise to the concept of abstract dynamical systems, stating that "qualitative theory is the study of the topological characteristics of orbits." The foundations of abstract dynamical systems were then laid by G.D. Birkhoff. Research into the ergodic hypothesis, one of the important properties of dynamical systems, has also long been a field of interest.

空間の任意の点が時間とともに推移していくときの状況を記述する一方法。天体力学の研究から発生した概念であり，(J.)H.ポアンカレが微分方程式の定性的理論のなかで提案した。さらに「定性的理論とは軌道のトポロジカルな特徴を調べることである」として抽象化した力学系の概念をもたらした。さらに G.D.バーコフによって抽象力学系の基礎が築かれた。力学系の重要な性質の1つであるエルゴード仮説に関する研究も長く関心を集める分野となっている。
