...the intervening portion passes through the collecting duct to reach the collecting duct, but on the way, it always approaches the afferent arteriole once, very close to the vascular pole, and forms a special structure called the macula densa. In this portion, Goormaghtigh's cells, which have flattened nuclei, are densely packed in layers, and are deeply involved in the endocrine system of the kidney, which will be described later (Figure 7, Figure 8).
