A reflex in which the pupil size changes in response to various stimuli, such as light. It is seen in vertebrates and cephalopods. The reflex caused by a change in the amount of light is called the pupil light reflex. The constriction of the pupil when gazing at a nearby object is called the near-distance reflex. 〘名〙 光など、種々の刺激に対して瞳孔の大きさが変化する反射。脊椎動物と頭足類でみられる。光の量の変化によるものを瞳孔の光反射という。また、近体を注視する場合の瞳孔の縮小を近距離反射という。
