Togo-so - Togo no sho

Japanese:
Togo-so - Togo no sho

The estate was the domain of Matsuo Taisha Shrine in Arashiyama, Kyoto, in the Chugoku region. It was located in Lake Togo and its surrounding area in Kawamura County, Hoki Province (near present-day Yurihama Town, Tohaku County, Tottori Prefecture), and was established at the end of the Heian period. Its first appearance in a historical document was in the "Map of the Dividing Areas of Togo Manor, Kawamura County, Hoki Province," dated November 1258 (Shoka 2). This map shows the actual flow of the Tenjin River and the specific details of how the estate was divided between the lord and the land steward. It is particularly notable that the lord divided the estate to the west and the land steward to the east, with the pond as the main focus, and that the goal was to divide the cultivated land, settlements, and mountains and fields equally, with a moat built on the site. During the Muromachi period, the Matsuo Taisha Shrine lost its territory due to the feudal domain system of the Yamana clan, the provincial governor of the prefecture. The Shidori Shrine of Ichinomiya in Hoki is located within the manor.
