Japanese: 搔爬術 - そうはじゅつ（英語表記）curettage

Curettage means to "scrape off" soft tissue from the surface of the body or body cavity, but generally speaking, curettage refers to a surgery in which the inner surface of the uterine cavity is scraped off with a sharp or blunt spoon to remove the contents of the uterine cavity and the endometrium. There is also exploratory curettage to diagnose abnormal bleeding by observing changes in the endometrium, but it is generally taken to mean an artificial abortion in the early stages of pregnancy. In other words, the contents of the pregnant uterus are removed with a placental forceps, and then the amniotic membrane and placental fragments remaining in the uterine cavity are scraped off with a curette (sharp or blunt spoon) to complete the surgery.

搔爬とは，体表面または体腔表面の軟組織を“かきとる”ことをいうが，一般に搔爬術といえば，子宮腔内面を鋭匙（えいひ），鈍匙などでかいて，子宮腔内容，内膜などをかきとり除去する手術をさす。不正出血時に内膜の変化をみて診断するための診査搔爬もあるが，一般的には妊娠初期の人工妊娠中絶の意味にとっていることが多い。すなわち妊娠子宮内容を胎盤鉗子などで除去し，その後に子宮腔内に残った卵膜，胎盤片などをキュレット(鋭匙，鈍匙)などでかいて手術を完了する。
