Lake Togo

A lagoon formed behind the Hojo Sand Dunes on the east bank of the Tenjin River estuary in Yurihama Town, Tohaku County, central Tottori Prefecture. It is also called Tsurugaike. It is a brackish, eutrophic lake with an area of ​​4.1 square kilometers, a basin depth of 2.5 meters, and a transparency of 1.5 meters. Compared to the Togo Manor map from 1258 (Shoka 2), the current lake surface has narrowed due to alluvial action. Hawai Onsen is located in the middle of the lake and at the tip of the inverted delta on the west bank, and Togo Onsen is located on the south bank. In recent years, due to the lake's pollution, the black muddy bottom sediment that floats to the surface during strong winds and waves emits a hydrogen sulfide smell. In addition to carp, crucian carp, and eels, gizzard shad and spotted flounder also live here, but the ecosystem is changing due to the increased inflow of seawater. In winter, waterfowl such as ducks and pochards also fly in.

鳥取県中央部、東伯(とうはく)郡湯梨浜(ゆりはま)町の天神(てんじん)川河口東岸の北条(ほうじょう)砂丘裏にできた海跡湖。鶴ヶ池(つるがいけ)ともいう。面積4.1平方キロメートル、湖盆深度2.5メートル、透明度1.5メートルの汽水湖で富栄養湖。1258年（正嘉2）の東郷荘園(しょうえん)図に比べ、現湖面は沖積作用で狭くなっている。湖中と西岸の逆デルタ先端にははわい温泉、南岸には東郷温泉がある。近年、湖の汚染化に伴い、強風波浪時には浮上した底質黒色泥の硫化水素臭が生じる。コイ、フナ、ウナギのほかコノシロやマガレイも生息するが、海水の流入増で生態系の変化がみられる。冬季にはカモ類やホシハジロなどの水鳥も飛来する。
