Kabuki actor. Stage name Yamazakiya. Real name Matsuyama Taro. His father was the Western-style painter Matsuyama Shozo. He was a disciple of Ichikawa Ennosuke II and called himself Ichikawa Shoya. He participated in the founding of Zenshinza and took the name in 1932. He was active for many years as a leading female actor with the troupe, and showed outstanding performances, particularly in domestic and evil women plays. He also contributed to the revival of Tsuruya Nanboku's works. His sons are the actors Matsuyama Eitaro and Masaji.

歌舞伎俳優。屋号山崎屋。本名松山太郎。父は洋画家松山省三。2世市川猿之助の門弟で，市川笑也を名のる。前進座の創立に参加し，1932年襲名。長く同座の立女方として活躍し，特に世話物や悪婆物にすぐれた舞台をみせた。鶴屋南北作品の復活上演にも貢献。俳優の松山英太郎，政路は息子。
