United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations whose mission is international cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture. Its origins date back to the Allied Ministers of Education Conference held by the Ministers of Education of the various governments (Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, and Yugoslavia) who were in exile in London during World War II, which considered the educational problems brought about by the destruction and devastation of war. In November 1945, a United Nations Conference on Education and Culture was convened, attended by 44 countries, and drafted and adopted the UNESCO Constitution.

国際連合教育科学文化機関United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organizationの略称。教育，科学，および文化の面での国際協力を目的とする国際連合の専門機関。設立の沿革は，第2次大戦中ロンドンに亡命していた諸国政府(ベルギー，チェコスロバキア，フランス，ギリシア，ルクセンブルク，オランダ，ノルウェー，ポーランド，ユーゴスラビア)の文部大臣によって開催された連合国文相会議が，戦争の破壊と荒廃によってもたらされる教育上の諸問題を検討したことに端を発し，1945年11月国際連合教育文化会議が招集され44ヵ国が出席してユネスコ憲章を起草，採択した。
