Imagawa Honryo Nekomatayakata

An old example is the puppet play Imagawa Honryo Nekomatayakata, a collaborative work by Bunkodo, Senzenken, Miyoshi Shoraku and others, which premiered at the Osaka Takemotoza in April 1740 (Genbun 5), and features a mysterious cat in the context of the family dispute within the Imagawa clan. A famous Kabuki piece is Hitori Tabi Gojuyu San Tsugi, written by Tsuruya Nanboku IV and performed at the Edo Kawarazakiza in June 1827 (Bunsei 10)....
