A military commander during the Nanboku-cho period. He was Shojiro, Kunai Shoyu, and had the Buddhist name Doyu. During the Kenmu administration, he served as the governor of Musashi Province, where Ashikaga Takauji served as both shugo and kokusai (state affairs minister). In 1336 (1st year of the Engen period, 3rd year of the Kenmu period), he accompanied Takauji on his westward march, staying in Kyushu and becoming the Chinzei Kanrei (Kyushu Tandai). He sent his son Norimitsu and others to fight against the Southern Court in Chikuzen, Chikugo, Hizen and other areas, but it was difficult to unify the Kyushu local lords, who had deep-rooted independence and complex conflicts with each other, and he came into conflict with Shoni Yorihisa, who supported Ashikaga Tadafuyu, and in 1653 (Shohei 8, Bunwa 2), he was defeated by the Southern Party's Kikuchi Takemitsu. In 1655 (Shohei 10, Bunwa 4), he fled to Nagato (Yamaguchi Prefecture), and the following year he went to Kyoto and retired. He became deeply devoted to Zen Buddhism.
