...It was in this work that he developed the concept of the maximum of ophélimité, later named the Pareto optimum, which defines the optimal allocation of resources while eliminating the assumptions of measurability of utility and comparability between individuals. After retiring from the University of Lausanne, Pareto devoted himself to sociological research and wrote the two-volume Introduction to Sociology General (1916), a major work that attempted to grasp the overall picture of human beings as social beings. It has a strong nationalistic tone and is sometimes considered the ideological source of Italian Fascism.
