...It is located on Itsukushima Island (Miyajima-cho, Saeki-gun, Hiroshima Prefecture), which is located in the southwest of Hiroshima Bay. It enshrines Ichikishimahime, Tagorihime, and Tagitsuhime. It was formerly a medium-sized shrine with official government support. The enshrined deity, Itsukishima-no-kami, was ranked as a Myojin in 811 (Kōnin 2) and was entrusted with Shijihi, and its divine rank was elevated to Jushii-jō in 867 (Jogan 9). It was ranked as a Myojin Taisha in the Engishiki, and later became the Ichinomiya of Aki Province. At the end of the Heian period, it was given three seats: Omiya, Nakagozen (Chūgū), and Marōdō-miya, and later it was considered to be the same three princess deities as Munakata Shrine, including Ichikishimahime. ...
