This is the diary of the Kanpaku and Grand Minister of State, Fujiwara Tadazane (1078-1162). It is also called Chisokuin Kanpakuki, Chisokuin Donoki, or Donoki. In his later years, during the Hogen Rebellion (1156), he was confined to Chisokuin in Funaoka, Yamashiro Atago County (west of Murasakino, Kita Ward, Kyoto City), where he died six years later, hence the name. The original handwritten version no longer exists, but 22 old copies that were copied around 1267 (Bun'ei 4) by Motohira (1246-68), the fifth head of the Konoe clan, at the command of his steward and others, are kept in the Kyoto Yomei Bunko. The period covered is 21 years, from 1098 (Shotoku 2) to 1118 (Gen'ei 1). In terms of the author's career, it begins when he was Gon Dainagon, and goes through the period when he was reappointed as Kanpaku after serving as Kanpaku, Sessho, and Dajodaijin, making up the majority of his time in the world, and contains detailed information on the various ceremonies and other political affairs at the Imperial Court. Included in the Dai Nihon Kokiroku.
