Abbreviation for direct spinning. In the manufacture of spun rayon and other products, a tow, consisting of several thousand or tens of thousands of long fiber bundles wound into a loose rope, is cut into cotton-like staple fibers, which are then aligned in parallel, stretched, twisted, and spun. In direct spinning, the carding process, in which the fibers are aligned in parallel and stretched, is omitted. For example, a Pacific Converter, a type of direct spinning machine, is used to make a top (spinning material) from the tow. 直接紡績の略。スパンレーヨンなどの製造において,数千本ないし数万本の長繊維束をゆるいロープの形にして巻いたトウtowを切断して,綿状のステープルファイバーにし,繊維を平行に並べ,伸ばし,撚り(より)をかけて精紡する。直紡においては,繊維をそろえて平行に並べて伸ばすカーディング操作が省略される。たとえば,トウからトップ(紡績原料)を作るには直紡機の一種であるパシフィックコンバーターが用いられる。この機械によって次のような操作でトップが作られる。
