Swaging - Swaging (English spelling)

A type of forging process in which metal material is compressed and molded. The material is cut from a metal plate of approximately the same thickness as the thickest part of the product. A tool or die is used to crush part of the material, causing it to flow according to the contours of the engraved mold. The parts that are not machined remain as they are and become part of the product. One type of swaging is rotary swaging, and in recent years it has been called radial forging. This is a process in which a round bar or cylindrical material is rotated around an axis, and a tool is used to crush parts of the material at right angles to the axis, creating a gradient or reducing the diameter and extending the length.

金属材料を圧縮成形する鍛造作業の一種。製品のもっとも厚い部分とほぼ同じ厚さの金属板から切り出した素材を用いる。工具または金型を用いて素材材料の一部を押しつぶし、彫り型の輪郭形状どおりに材料を流動させる。加工を受けない部分は元のまま残って製品の一部分となる。スエージングの一種にロータリースエージングrotary swaging、また近年ラジアルフォージングradial forgingとよばれている加工がある。これは、丸棒や円管状の材料を軸の周りに回転させながら工具を用いて材料を一部分ずつ軸と直角の方向に押しつぶして勾配(こうばい)をつけたり、直径を縮めて長さを伸ばしたりする加工のことである。
