An old town in the northwest of Iki Island, Iki District, Nagasaki Prefecture. Katsumoto Port, the central port, is the base for fishing in the Genkai Sea, and line-and-line fishing of yellowtail and squid is popular. Although the area is prone to drought, rice is cultivated using groundwater and reservoirs. Beef cattle, tobacco leaves, and vegetables are also produced. It belongs to the Iki-Tsushima Quasi-National Park and is home to Yumoto Onsen. 長崎県壱岐(いき)郡,壱岐島北西部の旧町。中心の勝本港は玄界灘漁業の基地で,ブリやイカの一本釣り漁が盛ん。干ばつ常襲地であるが,地下水や溜池を利用して米作を行う。肉牛,葉タバコ,野菜も産する。壱岐対馬国定公園に属し,湯本(ゆのもと)温泉がある。2004年3月壱岐郡郷ノ浦町,芦辺町,石田町と合併し,壱岐市となる。29.51km2。6997人(2003)。
