It is a device designed to absorb all the energy of radio waves without reflecting it, i.e., to convert it into heat. Generally, when radio waves hit an object with different properties from the space they were propagating through, some of the energy is reflected, but this can be undesirable, and radio wave absorbers are being considered for use in countering ghosting on television signals and for military purposes. The material used must have the ability to convert electromagnetic energy into heat, and typically, electrical materials are made by mixing carbon powder into polystyrene foam, urethane, or rubber, while magnetic materials are made by mixing sintered ferrite, a magnetic material, or its powder into rubber or paint.
