Orientalized style

…Greek art refers to the art that flourished in mainland Greece, southern Italy, and the Aegean region from about 1000 BC to the end of the 1st century BC, after the decline of Cretan-Mycenaean art. The Dorians, who gradually invaded Greece from about the 12th century BC, drove the indigenous Achaean forces from the Peloponnese Peninsula and completely destroyed the art of the Mycenaean civilization, which had a strong Cretan influence. Thus, Greece entered a long cultural dark age, but during this period the Greeks gradually began to create new art rooted in their own ethnicity. …
