…In Latin, they are called Gratiae, and in English, Graces. Originally, they were symbols of the joy brought by the bounty of nature. The number and names of the three sisters are not fixed, but they are usually associated with Zeus, according to Hesiod's Theogony, and are the three sisters Aglaia (Splendor), Euphrosynē (Joy), and Thaleia (Flowering). They accompanied Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, and helped her with her makeup. They also danced and sang at the banquets of the Olympian gods. They were worshiped not only for their physical beauty and charm, but also for their role in poetry and the arts. …
