A term used in gagaku. A name indicating the lineage of a gagaku expert (called a musician, a reinin, a gakushi, etc.). Refers to musicians belonging to Shitennoji Temple in Osaka. Gagaku has a tradition centered on the imperial court and its own lineage supported by various large temples and shrines. The gakuso (music hall) was established in the imperial court around the mid-Heian period, and musicians were hereditary. On the other hand, groups of musicians who served in religious events at temples and shrines such as Shitennoji Temple and Kofukuji Temple in Nara were also formed hereditarily. The Tennoji side of Shitennoji's musicians claim to have a distant ancestor, Hatano Kawakatsu, a retainer of Prince Shotoku, and take the surname Uzumasa or Hata, and there are five families: Sono, Hayashi, Togi, Oka, and Abe-surname Togi (in ancient times, all of them took the surname Uzumasa or Hata).
