An evergreen shrub of the Myrtaceae family that produces beautiful pale pink flowers at the ends of branches. It is cultivated for ornamental purposes, but grows wild in Okinawa and Taiwan. The stem is upright and branched. The leaves are opposite, oblong, thick, and have no sawtooth edges, with three prominent vertical veins. The leaves, pedicels, and young branches are covered with white fluff, and the fluff on the undersides of the leaves remains even after maturity. The flowers are about 2 cm in diameter, and consist of five sepals and five petals. The petals are rounded. There are many stamens and pale pink filaments. 枝先に淡紅色の美しい花をつけるフトモモ科の常緑低木。観賞用として栽培されるが,沖縄や台湾には自生する。茎は直立し分枝する。葉は対生し,長楕円形で葉縁に鋸歯がなく,厚みがあり,縦に走る3本の葉脈が目だつ。葉,花梗,若い枝には白い綿毛が生じ,葉裏の綿毛は成熟しても残る。花は径2cmくらいで,萼片5枚,花弁5枚からなり,花弁は丸みを帯びている。おしべは多数あり,花糸は淡紅色。子房は下位,花柱は1本。開花期は夏,熱帯では周年。
