...There is little flat land, and fishing is thriving. Kubotsu on the east coast of the Ashizuri Peninsula was a whaling base from the Edo period to the Meiji period. Iburi was also a whaling base at one time, and was known for its large-scale yellowtail fishing nets. On the west coast of the peninsula, there were fishing villages such as Nakahama and Isa, known as the Seven Seas of Hanazenura, where bonito fishing was carried out. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Iburi" are listed below.
