Tetryl - Tetryl (English spelling)

The correct name is N -methyl- N ,2,4,6-tetranitroaniline. Its abbreviation is CE (composition exploding). It is a pure white solid, but is easily discolored to yellow when exposed to light. It is synthesized by adding a concentrated sulfuric acid solution of N , N -dimethylaniline to a mixed acid of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. It is insoluble in water, and is poorly soluble in ethanol and ether, but is soluble in acetone. It decomposes when melted. It has a greater explosive power than TNT (trinitrotoluene) and is sensitive to shock. It is used as a conductive agent and a detonator charge. When treated with sodium sulfide, it becomes a water-soluble, non-explosive substance.

正しくはN-メチル-N,2,4,6-テトラニトロアニリンという。略称はCE（composition exploding）。純粋なものは白色固体であるが、光などにより黄色に変色しやすい。N,N-ジメチルアニリンの濃硫酸溶液を硝酸、硫酸の混酸で合成する。水には溶けず、エタノール、エーテルにも溶けにくいが、アセトンには溶ける。融解するとき分解する。TNT（トリニトロトルエン）より爆発力が大きく、衝撃に敏感である。伝導薬、雷管用添装薬として用いられる。硫化ナトリウムを作用させると水溶性の非爆発性物質となる。
