Hand-held dragon - Tedoriryu

Japanese: 手取竜 - テドリリュウ

This reptile was discovered in 1966 on a cliff along a national highway in Kamishinbashi, Miyama-cho, Asuwa-gun, Fukui Prefecture. It was unearthed along with plant fossils from the Sakaidera Interlayer of the Tetori Group, which is from the Late Jurassic Period. Almost the entire specimen remains, but it is an impression fossil. It is about 7cm long and resembles a lizard. Its head is relatively large, and its external shape is triangular when viewed from above. Its hind legs are larger than its forelimbs. Both its front and back legs have four digits. Of the four, the fourth digit is the longest. It is thought to have lived a life similar to that of a tree lizard.

1966年福井県足羽郡美山町上新橋の国道沿いの崖から発見された爬虫類。ジュラ紀後期の手取層群境寺（さかいでら）互層の植物化石といっしょに産出した。ほぼ全体が残っていたが印象化石である。全長約7cm大でトカゲに似ている。頭は比較的大きく，上から見ると外形は三角形を呈する。前肢より後肢の方が大きい。前後肢とも指は4本。4本のうち第4指がいちばん長い。キノボリトカゲのような生活をしていたと考えられている。
