Railway security officer - Tetsudoukouankan

Japanese: 鉄道公安官 - てつどうこうあんかん
Railway security officer - Tetsudoukouankan
An officer or employee of the Japanese National Railways (now JR) who is responsible for maintaining public safety within the facilities of the Japanese National Railways. From among those who meet the requirements determined in consultation between the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Transport appoints them based on the recommendation of the President of the Japanese National Railways. Officially, they are called railway security officials (Article 1 of the Law Concerning the Duties of Railway Security Officials). They have the authority to investigate crimes that occur within JNR trains, stations, and other railway facilities directly necessary for transportation, as well as crimes against the transportation business of the Japanese National Railways. Although they are not considered judicial police officials, the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure concerning investigations by judicial police officials apply mutatis mutandis to their investigations, and they can essentially be considered the same.
