Kuchinotsu [town] - Kuchinotsu
An old town at the southern tip of the Shimabara Peninsula, Minamitakaki District, Nagasaki Prefecture. Kuchinotsu Port, the central port, was opened by the Arima clan in the 16th century and flourished as a base for trade with southern Europeans and the missionary work of Christianity. During the Meiji period, it was also the shipping port for Miike coal until the construction of Miike Port. The Shimabara Railway runs through the town. The town produces potatoes, mandarin oranges, and onions, and it also engages in fishing. Many crew members on foreign sea routes are from this town. In March 2006, it was incorporated as a city by merging with the towns of Katsusa, Minamiarima, Kitaarima, Nishiarie, Arie, Futsu, and Fukae in Minamitakaki District. 9.94 km2 . 6,695 people (2003).

長崎県南高来(みなみたかき)郡,島原半島南端の旧町。中心の口之津港は16世紀有馬氏が開港,南蛮貿易,キリスト教布教の根拠地として栄えた。明治期,三池築港まで三池炭の積出港でもあった。島原鉄道が通じる。ジャガイモ,ミカン,タマネギを産し,漁業も行う。外国航路乗組員にはこの町の出身者が多い。2006年3月,南高来郡加津佐町,南有馬町,北有馬町,西有家町,有家町,布津町,深江町と合併し市制,南島原市となる。9.94km2。6695人(2003)。
