When we focus on two nodes in an electric circuit and consider the main variables to be the current exchanged between the circuit and the outside world through this node pair and the voltage between the nodes, this circuit is called a two-terminal circuit or a one-terminal circuit. Whether a circuit is a one-terminal circuit or not is independent of classifications such as whether it is linear or not, or whether it is time-varying or invariant, so we can consider a one-terminal circuit that is nonlinear and time-varying. However, especially when a circuit is time-invariant and linear, when a sinusoidal current with angular frequency ω is steadily passed through the terminal pair of a one-terminal circuit, the voltage at the terminal pair becomes a sinusoidal wave and the angular frequency remains constant. 電気回路中の二つの節点に着目し,この節点対を通じてこの回路と外部との間で授受される電流と,節点間の電圧とを主要な変数と考えたとき,この回路を二端子回路または一端子対回路と呼ぶ。回路が一端子対であるか否かは,例えば線形であるか否か,時変か不変かなどの分類と独立であるから,時間的に変化する非線形な一端子対回路などを考えることができる。しかしとくに回路が時間的に不変でかつ線形である場合には,一端子対回路の端子対に角周波数ωの正弦波電流を定常的に流したとき,端子対における電圧は正弦波となり,その角周波数は不変に保たれる。
