Japanese: 阿波十郎兵衛 - あわのじゅうろべえ

1646-1698 A village headman in the early Edo period.
He was born in the third year of the Shoho era. In the sixth year of the Enpo era, he became the Kawaguchi Judicial Inspector General for the import of foreign rice for the Awa Tokushima Domain. He was found guilty of purchasing foreign rice, and was executed along with his son on November 21, the eleventh year of the Genroku era. He was 53 years old. Later, his wife Oyumi died of illness, and his daughter Otsuru went missing. He was featured as the protagonist in the Bunraku puppet theater "Keisei Awa no Naruto" and other works. His real name was Bando Jyurobei.

正保(しょうほ)3年生まれ。延宝6年阿波徳島藩の他国米積み入れの川口裁判改役となる。他国米の買い入れをめぐって罪にとわれ,元禄(げんろく)11年11月21日息子とともに処刑された。53歳。のち妻お弓は病死,娘お鶴は消息不明となる。人形浄瑠璃(じょうるり)「傾城(けいせい)阿波の鳴門」などの主人公としてとりあげられた。本名は板東十郎兵衛。
