A bay on the Atlantic coast in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro State in southeastern Brazil. It is also called Rio de Janeiro Bay, and the city of Rio de Janeiro (Rio) spreads out on the southwestern shore. The bay is purse-shaped, opening to the south, and is about 30 km wide and deep at its widest point, but the width of the mouth of the bay narrows to less than 2 km because of the capes that protrude from the east and west. Copacabana, one of South America's leading resorts, spreads out on the south side of the mouth of the bay. On the western cape, a rocky mountain called Pan de Aúscar stands, and is the symbol of Rio. There are many islands in the bay, and the largest island, Governador, located in the west of the center, is where Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport is located. Other islands include Paqueta Island, known as a tourist destination, and Cobras Island, which is a naval base. Niterói is located on the southeastern shore of the bay, opposite Rio, and the two cities are connected by ferry, and in 1974 the Guanabara Bay Crossing Bridge was completed to connect the two cities. The view of Guanabara Bay from Corcovado, a rocky peak in southeastern Rio, is beautiful, and in 2012 it was registered as a World Heritage Site under the title "Rio de Janeiro, Carioca Landscape Surrounded by Mountains and Sea".

ブラジル南東部，リオデジャネイロ州南部大西洋岸にある湾。リオデジャネイロ湾とも呼ばれ，南西岸にはリオデジャネイロ（リオ）の市街が広がる。南に開口した巾着形の湾で，最大幅，奥行とも約 30kmあるが，東西から突出した岬に挟まれた湾口部の幅は 2km以下にせばまる。湾口の南側には南アメリカ有数の保養地コパカバナが細長く広がる。西側の岬にはパンデアスカルと呼ばれる岩山がそびえ，リオのシンボルになっている。湾内には島が多く，中央部西寄りにある最大のゴベルナドル島にはガレアン＝アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビン国際空港がある。ほかに観光地として知られるパケタ島，海軍基地となっているコブラス島などがある。リオの対岸，湾の南東岸にはニテロイが立地，両市はフェリーで連絡されるほか，1974年には両市を結ぶグアナバラ湾横断橋が完成した。リオ南東部にある岩峰コルコバドから見おろすグアナバラ湾の景観は美しく，2012年「リオデジャネイロ，山と海に囲まれたカリオカの景観」として世界遺産の文化遺産に登録された。
