An evergreen fern of the family Pteridophyceae (illustration), commonly found on roadsides and mountain foothills in sunny or semi-shaded areas in warm regions. The rhizomes are short and creeping, with shiny brown scales. The leaves grow in clusters, and large ones can reach 1m including the petiole. They are yellow-green, or sometimes tinged with reddish purple. The leaf surface is ovate-oblong, pinnately divided 3-4 times, the lobes are wedge-shaped, and the leaf texture is somewhat thick. Sporangia are attached to the ends of the veins, and sometimes appear to be fused with adjacent ones. The tips of the envelopes approach the leaf margins.
