Ichijima [town] - Ichijima

Japanese: 市島[町] - いちじま

A former town in Hikami County, eastern Hyogo Prefecture. It is located in the middle reaches of the Takeda River, a tributary of the Yura River, and the Fukuchiyama Line runs through it. It is the birthplace of dairy farming in the Hikami region, and Wagyu cattle are also raised there. In addition to rice, the area also produces vegetables, flowering trees, matsutake mushrooms, and chestnuts. In November 2004, it merged with the towns of Kashiwabara, Hikami, Aogaki, Kasuga, and Yamanami in Hikami County to become a city, Tamba City. 77.15 ^km2 . Population: 10,463 (2003).
