Akagi

Akagi Village was formerly a village in Seta District, in the central-eastern part of Gunma Prefecture. It currently occupies the northeastern part of Shibukawa City. It was merged into Shibukawa City in 2006. The former village area occupied the western slope of Mount Akagi, with the Tone River on its western border. It is a farming village whose main industries are livestock farming, such as pig farming, and konjac cultivation, and in recent years tourist farms have also been established for growing strawberries, apples, and other crops. In the Edo period, the Numata Kaido road, which linked the castle towns of Maebashi and Numata, ran along a higher slope than the JR Joetsu Line, and Mizorogi was a post town. National Route 353 runs through the area, and the Akagi Interchange on the Kan'etsu Expressway is located here. The Kabuki stage in Kami-Miharata is a national important tangible folk cultural property, and the area is rich in cultural assets such as the puppet stage and puppets in Tsukuda, the stone standing statue of Acala at Miyata Fudoson (a national important cultural property), and the Takizawa Stone Age ruins. The golden bamboo of Shikishima is a national natural monument.

群馬県中東部、勢多郡(せたぐん)にあった旧村名（赤城村(むら)）。現在は渋川市(しぶかわし)の北東部を占める地域。2006年渋川市に合併。旧村域は赤城山の西斜面を占め、西境は利根(とね)川となる。養豚などの畜産、コンニャク栽培を主とする農村で、近年はイチゴ、リンゴなどの観光農園もつくられている。江戸時代、前橋城下と沼田城下を結んだ沼田街道は、JR上越線よりも高位斜面を通り、溝呂木(みぞろぎ)は宿場であった。国道353号が通じ、関越(かんえつ)自動車道赤城インターチェンジがある。上三原田(かみみはらた)の歌舞伎(かぶき)舞台は国の重要有形民俗文化財で、津久田(つくだ)の人形舞台と人形、宮田不動尊の石造不動明王立像（国指定重要文化財）、滝沢石器時代遺跡などの文化財に富む。敷島のキンメイチクは国の天然記念物。
