Electrostatic generator

Japanese: 静電発電機 - せいでんはつでんき（英語表記）electrostatic generator

A device that generates high voltage by transporting and accumulating electric charges generated by corona discharge, electrostatic induction, etc., on a high-voltage electrode. A typical example is the belt generator invented by American RJ Van de Graaff in 1931. As shown in the figure, a DC voltage V is applied to needle electrode 1, and a corona discharge is generated between it and the grounded flat electrode 2. The figure shows the case where V is positive, but if it is negative, a negative high voltage is generated. An insulating belt is placed between 1 and 2, and the electric charge generated by the corona discharge at the needle tip is attached to the belt.

コロナ放電や静電誘導などで発生させた電荷を，高電圧電極に運搬集積して高電圧を発生させる装置。1931年アメリカのバン･デ･グラーフR.J.Van de Graaffによって考案されたベルト発電機が代表的な例である。図に示すように針電極1に直流電圧Vを加え，接地した平板電極2との間でコロナ放電を発生させる。図はVが正の場合を示しているが，負なら負極性の高電圧が発生する。1～2間に絶縁物のベルトを置き，針先端のコロナ放電で生じた電荷をベルトに付着させる。
