Tiburtina (English spelling)

Japanese: ティブルティナ（英語表記）Tiburtina

A prophet highly respected in medieval Europe. In ancient Greece and Rome, the prophetic books of the female seers, the Sibylles, were believed to provide guidance for national administration and warfare. Among them, the Cumaean and Tiburtina, known for their paintings by Michelangelo, became famous in later generations. Tiburtina in particular was the most famous female prophet of the Middle Ages, and there is a legend that she was the daughter of King Priam, and traveled from Asia Minor to Egypt and Babylonia, and was eventually called to Rome, where she interpreted the same dream that 100 senators had in one night.

中世ヨーロッパで重んじられた予言者。古代ギリシア･ローマにおいては女予言者シビュラの予言の書が国家行政や戦争遂行の指針を与えるものとされていた。その中で後世高名となったのがミケランジェロの絵で知られるクマエとティブルティナであった。特にティブルティナは中世における最も有名な女予言者で，次のような伝承がある。すなわち彼女はプリアモス王の娘で，小アジアからエジプト，バビロニアなどを訪れ，やがてローマに呼ばれ，元老院議員たち100人が一夜にみた同じ夢の解釈をした。
